It is widely known that China is one of the world's leading countries in terms of travel and tourism revenues, and that it is growing at more than twice the rate of GDP growth. The Chinese market is expected to be as large as Germany and the UK over the next five years. The number of people using smartphones for travel - related purposes in their daily lives - is increasing, and by 2025, there are projected to be more than 1.5 billion smartphone users in China, up from about 1 million in 2010.
This year alone, we will see an increase in hotels in Zhengzhou and other major cities across the country. Hotels that Zheng Zhou will be offering in the future include the Shangri-La Hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the Zhejiang Hotel.
Further out, it looks as though the pipeline will be upscale rather than medium-sized, and the Westin Aloft is opening. Meanwhile, Hyatt plans to build a pandemic in Zhengzhou, China's second-largest city of 1.5 million people.
We believe design plays an important role in transforming the overall guest experience, and we believe that this is different here in China. We currently have seven brands operating in Greater China, including Park Hyatt, Westin Aloft, Park Hotel, South China Hotel and W Hotel. Looking at the design of each of these models, it becomes clear that design is important for all seven of our brands. But we definitely see an opportunity to build on the success of the first two brands in Zhengzhou and the other two in Shanghai.
Hyatt hotels are decorated with a contemporary flair that reflects the unique surroundings of the hotel and acts as a gateway to the surrounding city. Essentially, we want to build and design a hotel in the heart of Zhengzhou, a city of more than 1.5 million inhabitants, with the best of both worlds.
Zhengzhou is south of the Yellow River, Songshan Mountain is west, and Park Hyatt Ningbo Resort & Spa is located in the city's North Wei Grottoes, one of China's most popular tourist attractions.
